Tracking: To Discover
The Skills of Tracking is a cherished skill. It is certainly a challenge to describe what tracking can be used for. Tracking is just as the name suggests; the ability to find, follow, or discover a path, trail, an animal, a person or anything you desire. Tracking may be used to find yourself dinner, to find a lost or missing person or to find your way on a stormy evening. To be able to track is to never be lost, to find what you seek, and most importantly; to live in the wild.
The ability to track encompasses the ability to see not only with one's eyes but with your entire person. You must see the bent grass or broken twig, feel the cool breeze against your cheek and smell the soft scent of the rain... You must be aware of your surroundings and you must not waiver in noticing details. In its very essence tracking is a skill of details. To successfully track something you must discover every detail. Be it a bit of wolf's fur or a horse' hoof print in the mud, failure to notice the slightest detail may lead you off course.
