Archery: Dueling Techniques
Dueling Techniques
In Archery, strategy is a must. Depending on your opponent you need to think of how you will defend, offend, and wait for that perfect moment to shoot.
--Conservative Duelist: The Wolf
Why conservative duelists are known as 'Wolves':
Wolves hold back; they unleash their fury when they are
sure it will be precise and damaging. They hold their
energy for the one moment that it will matter most,
in the peak of the hunt.
When you believe your enemy is quick, conservative
dueling is a good way to go. Tuck your bow in close,
yes, it will take longer to get a shot ready, but you
can move much faster with it out of the way. Hold your
shots until it's sure your shot will be accurate. If
he is behind the pole for instance, you can then
pull the bow out further and notch an arrow; then run
out and start shooting from side to side. Aiming ahead
of the enemy is a must, if you aim at him; you will
surely miss.
Offensive Duelist: The Fury
Why offensive duelists are called Furies:
They unleash their rage on the battlefield, yet also use
their speed to help them in certain instances. When in
danger, they make quick choices; to return the shot or
to avoid it and come back even stronger with more rage. Sometimes, the opponent will be slow and strong. He
can't out-maneuver you but his arrows will fly quickly.
So, this is more of an inbetween dueling style. More
on the defensive, focusing on speed and hiding; but
also using them on the offensive. Speed will be your
key to success; using it to run around him or
make him miss. Hiding can distract him; hiding behind
the pole as he makes his way around one side and quickly
throwing him off by going around and getting him at the
side. Since the enemy is slow, conserving arrows would
be foolish at some points. Keep your mind focused on
maneuvering, but also keep your hands and eyes focused
on aiming and shooting.
--Defensive Duelist: The Tactician
Why defensive duelists are known as Tacticians:
Taking time to think of strategies to overwhelm their
opponents, in the end they will come on top as the
victors if they haven't been shot before their strategy
has come to suffice.
At some point, your enemy will have skill all around.
He will be strong, he will be quick, his aim will be
precise. This is when a defensive dueling style is
needed. Your tactics will be key for being the victor.
One definitely must be able to dodge while thinking of
tactical maneuvers and attacks. He may be quick, but
you musn't run for him, but around, getting him
at the side or at the back. If you notice him aiming
for you, turn towards the pole or distract him by
either shooting or veering out of the way quickly.
Conservative dueling, Offensive, and Defensive dueling
are key to archery matches. Either saving your arrows
for shots that will be in tact, Letting your arrows fly
and using your speed for maneuvers, or using tactics to
your advantage conserving arrows and at the same time
making him waste them.
Think of your own new styles of dueling, move quickly and
in ways that will confuse your opponent and your victory
will be definite.
