Archery: Marksmanship
Marksmanship - The Skill of shooting. In this case an arrow. The ability of a Marksman.
Marksman- A man or woman who is skilled in shooting at a target. One must maintain this skill in order to hold the title.
Marksmanship is the skill and ability to shoot, in this case an arrow. For this title, the person must have extreme expertise in the knowledge and ability to shoot a perfect shot. The shot must be controled and practiced greatly until a person can come even close to holding a title as great as a Marksman.
Ways to perfect your skills on marksmanship is to practice not only shooting at a target, but holding a steady form. Many complicated and percise steps must be heald in order to keep a perfect shot.
Learning how to control your shot is one thing you can practice. In order to contol your shot, you must do all of the following:
o Make sure your bow string is tight and durable, yet
flexable.
o Have steady hands.
o Make sure your hand is gripped firmly around the stalk of
your bow.
o Your other hand must hold both the arrow and the string
lightly, but with enough strength so the arrow will not
slip.
o Keep your arms steady and be able to hold your bow in
one spot for a long period of time if needed.
o Be able to judge distance and the amount of force needed
to pull back on the string in order to reach this distance.
o Have keen eyesight and be able to focuss for long periods
of time.
o You must control your breathing during this time no matter
the situation.
o Let your arrow go during the pause between exhaling and
inhaling.
o Be able to keep your bow steady even after the arrow is
let go.
Different types of bows require different abilities and knowledge in order to have a perfect shot.
A few type of bows and their parts are of the following:
~ Straight - Limb Bow ~ Recurve Bow ~ Compound Bow ~
- Tip - Tip - Eccentric Pulley
- Upper Notch - String Notch - Upper Limb
- Lower Limb - Upper Limb - Lower Limb
- Arrow Shelf - Lower Limb - Cable Guard
- String Height - Recurve - Stabilizer insert
- Handle - Handle - Grip
- String - String - Arrow Rest
- Sight Window - Shelf
- Shelf - Sight Window
- String Height - Cable
- String
As you can see the Compound Bow is very complex and from what I have heard is only made in distant lands such as Han. Their skill in Smithing and Carpentry is very more advanced.
