Trapping : Trap Lore
Trap Lore
Dart trap
The dart trap is a fairly simple contraption. You can easily blend it into any environment, and if you are truly skilled, can make one almost anywhere at anytime. It is made by hallowing out a small area in the ground or floor, sometimes under tiles in buildings for example. A spring back device is used, which can be easily made with a flexible piece of stiff, strong wood. On the spring back device is place a needle or dart, which can be made of any sharp material, raw or refined makes no difference. Pressure sets it off.
Flash trap
Similar to the Dart trap, there is the flash trap. This trap requires a little more skill to make, but can be very useful. When making it, one does not use a dart, but replaces the dart with a sachet of powder, preferably flash dust or powder. When triggered, the animal or person will be blinded for a short time as a result of the powder flailing up and into their face and eyes.
Repeating dart
Although this is the common name for this, many refer to it as a Stiletto trap as well. It is very similar to the dart trap as well, but can use many different triggers, which including hidden levers, magic seals and the common pressure plates. When triggered, however, this trap sends flying a sharp disc with many small, damaging darts on it. A rather crude and cruel tool, it can be helpful when a dart trap proves ineffective.
Spear trap
This trap is more more delicate than the previously mentioned ones. It requires much skill to make one, and can prove to be very powerful at times. It is a common knowledge trap among ogres, as they have a very simple, yet less powerful method of creating this. To make one with our knowledge, one must first start by setting up a small, concealed lever, attached to a spring device, preferably a coiled steel rod or extremely stiff, but not brittle, piece of wood. A hole must be dug into the ground and proceeded by placing the device inside. After setting the spring device, one should place a long rod, preferably of wood as it will splinter causing extra pain to the target, on the spring device so it sits just below the surface. A sharp end is placed on this and then the trap is concealed.
Sleep trap
A rather effective trap when one wants to evade foes, this trap can be made with greater ease than one would think, especially with magical aid. Basically, it is a flash trap with a few modifications. First of all, one must soak the dust in an indigo potion, although this curse poison it is often found to cause drousiness as well. After this, you need to take the powder and unwrap it from the sachet, as the sachet will not stay in tact long enough for the trap to function. Rewrap the contents in an animal's hide, or other such material as a paper sachet will not suffice. There you have it, a sleep trap.
Poison dart
This is rather simple. Take a dart trap and place some poison on the end of the dart. The only problems with this trap are finding an alchemist willing to provide you with potent enough poisons for your needs, and that the dart must be metal for this trap to function.
Snare
This trap is a thin wire or string snare which catches the targets limbs mainly. You basically put a knot in it and then allow it to slip shut on the target. It will lower defense as a side effect.
Death trap
The most powerful and skill demanding trap of all. Only the strongest of rogues, and the most knowledgeable, have the ability to make such a trap. This is the only magic-restricted trap. It can be placed one year, and found the next, and it will still have the same potence. When one calls upon his/her magical powers to make this trap, they are calling forth Baekho himself. When triggered, baekho's power is released from the trap in a mighty roar, and his jaws close down on the victim in the same instant. It is for this reason that this is a strictly magical trap.
